The Diary Files · from The Becoming series
Nobody becomes her all at once. I didn’t.
If you read my story, it looks like a straight line — cutter, designer, consultant, founder. It wasn’t. It was a thousand small days. A thousand mornings where I had to decide, again, who I was going to be. Looking back, I can honestly say it all happened by chance, not by plan. But here’s what I know now: chance favors the woman who keeps deciding.
Becoming isn’t a destination you arrive at. It’s a decision you make daily. And most days, it doesn’t look dramatic. It looks like the morning mirror.
It looks like choosing the outfit with intention instead of grabbing whatever’s closest — because how you dress is how you introduce yourself to your own day. It looks like speaking to yourself the way you’d speak to someone you love, instead of the way the world has spoken to you. It looks like the kind word you say to the woman in the elevator. The “no” you finally say kindly. The room you walk into like you belong there — because you do.
Confidence isn’t a personality trait. It’s a practice. Like prayer, like exercise, like anything that matters — it works when you work it, a little every day. Some days you’ll feel it. Some days you’ll just do it scared, and that counts double.
I think we get this wrong because we imagine “her” — the woman we’re becoming — as some finished, polished version of us waiting in the future. She’s not in the future. She’s in today’s decisions. Every time you choose yourself — your growth, your dignity, your God-given uniqueness — you meet her a little sooner.
So here’s my question for your diary tonight: what is one decision you can make tomorrow that the woman you’re becoming would thank you for? Just one. Write it down. Then do it.
Small decisions, made daily, become a life. And what a life it’s becoming.
Be yourself. Never compare, never compete. Your becoming was never meant to look like hers — it was meant to look like you, fully, finally, every day.
